Camellia Foundation School started operating as a fully residential school for children of the tea workers working in the 15 gardens belonging to Duncan Brothers BD Limited, situated in the Sylhet district of Bangladesh in the year 2004. In the first year Classes 6 to 8 started operating with 11 teachers and 38 students. These students were chosen on the basis of their merit and intelligence level being chosen from garden primary schools and neighbouring schools – prerequisite being that they have to be children of permanent workers working in the gardens belonging to Duncan Brothers. Every year a new class was added and in 2007 the first batch of students sat for Secondary School Certificate Examinations conducted by the Education Board of BD. The students of this batch and the consecutive batches have attained exceptionally good results and this may be seen in our Admission and result page. The reader will also have a good idea of the accomplishment of the school’s objective of helping the bright children from poor families to aspire for a white collar job, from the news and events page which given the news of the alumni.

CDFS is a fully charitable school. Education material, uniform, food, lodging are provided free of cost to the students and no fees are taken from them. To start with the 15 gardens of Duncan Brothers contributed to the expenses of running the school. Since June 2011, The Abu Subhan Welfare Trust, named after the then Managing Director of Duncan Brothers, BD Limited, took over the direct running of the school from Duncan Brothers and this Trust is funded by the Camellia Fundation, UK. The Trust is registered under the NGO Bureau, Prime Ministers Office, Government of BD having registration member – 2805. The Managing Trustee, Mrs. Nasreen Subhan is directly in charge of running the school as she has been doing since its inception in 2004. This Trust also gives out scholarships to bright but underprivileged students of Art Colleges and art departments of universities of the country.
